The Karimi (Crimeans) were once famous as merchants who controlled the trade routes through (Persian: Karima) where they were attracted to the religion of the Crimean Karaites and so they gave their name to all Crimean-Karaitizers that copied their example. They are probably descended from the 40 families of Karaite-Turks settled in Bakhchisarai mixed with the Ghisolfi.
