The Edumean sect of Messianic Sadducees began in Tachkastan with a Sadducee called Mahmet the Ishmaelite who adopted certain Manichean ideas about Rebbe Yehoshua Minzaret and the Mishnah which Rebbe Yehoshua Minzaret promoted.

Development

Mahmet the Ishmaelite was originally a Sadducee warlord known as Emir Ambrus who rose to prominence in Tachkastan having subjugated the Banu Qabisa. He went on to conquer the Patriarchates of Jerusalem, Antioch and Alexandria where he became renowned for his brutal suppression of the followers of Rebbe Yehoshua Minzaret.

However, it is said that despite the Emir's war-crimes, the Dyophysite Patriarch Sophronius of Jerusalem invited him to pray in the Church of the Sepulchre. Although Emir Ambrus declined, he is said to have asked the Monophysite Syriac Patriarch John of the Sedre to explain the Christian doctrine to him. Following the discussion he ordered a translation of the New Testament to study. After Sophronius died, the Emir installed Abraham I as the first Armenian Monophysite Patriarch over the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The Emir is also said to have regarded the Coptic Pope Benjamin as the Holiest Man he had ever met.

Under the influence of the three Monophysite Patriarchs of the Oriental Orthodox Church, it seems having consulted an "Arian" Monk called Abu Turab through his translator Salman of Fars. As a result, the Emir took on the name Mahmet in devotion to the crucifixion. He also accepted the Mishnah promoted by Rebbe Yehoshua Minzaret being identified by Monophysites as the Messianic Emanation of the Divine. However, he decided to try and influence his Messianic subjects to accept certain Sadducee ideas (such as the Sadducee calendar) as HaGarim HaManichayim without having to abandon Monophysite Messianism. The Emir's lectures were more popular among the Manicheans of Tachkastan than among the Sadducees so he appointed from HaGarim HaManichayim a Manichean to be his successor Emir Tashik of Quraysh.

The new Emir Tashik had all of Mahmet's lectures gathered together and redacted into a new Quraysh religious Tome, sending a copy to Pope Martin while ordering all of the original religious materials (Injeel, Miqra lectures etc.) to be destroyed. This caused great unrest leading to his assassination and a civil war in the Empire which lasted for 36 years.

After the civil war, Abdul Malik promoted the idea that Emir Ambrus and Emir Tashik were actually just developing an idea which had originated with Ibn Abi Kabsha who had taught their Sadducee Predecessor in the Hijaz.
