THE SOJOURNERS / PILGRIMS / GERS

هاجرن

Children of Noah from among the Umot HaOlam who are called to honour the G-d of Abraham Isaac and Jacob are known in the Torah as הגרים (Hagarim or Ha-Garim or Ha-Gerim or Ha-Geirim). Judeo-Arabic scriptures refer to them as משלם. They are called Muslamai in the Targum of Rabbi Onkelos. Augustus Caesar was a Sojourner.

The word "Hagar" meaning the Sojourner is the epithet given to Keturah which was changed in an attempt to distinguish Hagar from Keturah by the Karaites around 1000 years ago when the Karaites inserted the Nikudot into the Masoretic text. Keturah came from Hagarim (Noahites) so Hagarim are not physical descendants of Keturah.

Sojourners are categorized into the three different levels of Noahism:

Chokhmei Umot HaOlam anywhere.
Chassidei Umos HaOlam who subscribe to a Jewish Makom.
Tzadikei Umos HaOlam who have joined the Nation of Priests.

They were very dominant during the 7th century where they were called Magharians or Magarites. Some were Edomeans while others were Ishmaelites.

Ishmaelites

The Ishmaelite Gerim were Sadducees. Sozomenus described the religion of the Saracens in the 5th century saying that they descended from Ishmael and their religion if any different from Judaism was only because of the passage of time and their interaction with non-Jews.The Ishmaelites should have belonged the same Sadducee religion as Alexander Janneus albeit of a different minhag due to the years of separation and interaction with non-Abrahamites. The Karaite Jews from Edessa could not convince the Sadducee Ishmaelites of Tachkastan to unite with them in religion until they helped the Ishmaelites rule the country. The problem was that the Ishmaelites had existed as Hagarim without teachers for so long they were reluctant to accept Jewish teachers.

Anastasius of Sinai (died 700CE) confirms the Judaic practice of the Ishmaelites. He writes angrily of some Saracens, "who had expressed their disbelief and blasphemed the holy place, its icons and its crosses". He ridicules them, saying that "no such miracles had occurred in any other religion, or in any synagogue of the Jews or Arabs."

Edomeans

Another group of Gerim were the Edomeans.
