Jude-Thaddeus Ben Zakiri also known as Jude the Hasid or Ben Zachar and Jude of Issachar, often confused with the Judas, or with Simon Peter was granted permission by the Sanhedrin to use the Name to fight against Dositheus according to the Teliya or against Simon Magus according to the Acts of Peter. The story of his victory over Dositheus (the Ashkenazi version of Krampus) is told while playing card games on Nittle Nacht.

The appearance of his name as R. Yehuda the Pious in some versions of the Teliya makes it likely that Karaite enemies of the Tosafists were responsible for circulating those versions.
