Beit Shammai

The House of Shammai refers to the Karaites who follow the Halakha of Judah ben Tabai's school which is always called Joshua ben Perachia in the Babylonian Talmud and from which the Elagabalite-Notzrim emerged. Unlike Beit Hillel, Beit Shammai refused to write down the Oral Torah and therefore opposed the Pharisaical Scribes who believed it was important to write down the Oral Torah.
