Most Eastern Christians are on the outside almost indistinguishable from Romaniot Jews. However, most Eastern Christian attempts to look at Christianity themselves in a way which makes sense of its Jewish origins were suppressed as Judaization in the Eastern Churches. Nevertheless, after the Raskol, large numbers of priestless old believers followed a new clergy who found a way to do it by finding a position between Judaism and Karaism. Such pastors became known as [[Subbotniki]] in Russian.
