There are three explanations for the fast of Ramadan.

The first is that it corresponds to the fast of the 10th month which precedes Kalenda (in which case Eid Qurbani corresponds to Pesakh).

The (practiced in Malta) second is that it corresponds to the Yashan fast which follows Shevet (in which case Eid-Qurbani corresponds to Pentecost).

The third is that it corresponds to the fast of Tammuz beginning on the 9th of Tammuz as per Jeremiah 39:2 and concludes at midday on the 10th of Av as per Jeremiah 52:12-13. It is customary to distribute meat to the poor after midday on the 10th (In which case Eid Qurbani corresponds to Yom Kippur).
