Peleg, comes from the root word "palag", which means (literally or figuratively) "division" or to split. He was the fifth generation after the Flood when the earth was divided by tongues.
Often identified with the Balkan Pelasgians but also the city of Balkh, and even the Volga river.
The Quran indicates that Peleg was named to coincide with the disaster which struck the earth as a result of ignoring the message of Prophet Hud (Eber).
