The meaning of the word Karaism without qualificatoin is unclear.
- It usually refers to Karaimism the original Mosaic belief system of the Khazarian descendants of the lest 10 Tribes of Israel which due to centuries of rule by the Scythians in Central Asia included elements of Shamanism and Manicheism.
- Less frequently it refers to Karaite Judaism.
