You shall not live long on it, BUT WILL BE UTTERLY DESTROYED. 27“He who is will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where he who is drives you. 28“There you will serve gods, the work of man’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

Torah

Preamble

D.1:13 - 18, Choose wise and discerning and experienced men from your tribes, and the seat of Moses will appoint them as your heads......the heads of your tribes. Wise and experienced men, to be appointed as heads over you, leaders of thousands and of hundreds, of fifties and of tens, and officers for your tribes. Your judges are charged to "hear the cases between your fellow countrymen, and judge righteously between a man and his fellow countryman, or the alien who is with him. 17 You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not fear man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to" Moses' seat to be heard. Moses "commanded you at that time all the things that you should do" as follows:

Exodus 20 to 24

E.20:1Then God spoke all these words, saying: 2“I AM IS HE WHO IS YOUR GOD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3“YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS before me.

4“YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF ANY IDOL of any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5“YOU SHALL NOT WORSHIP THEM OR SERVE THEM; for I, he who is your God, is a possessive God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

7“YOU SHALL NOT TAKE THE NAME OF HE WHO IS YOUR GOD IN VAIN, for he who is will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

8“REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. 9“Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath of he who is your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11“For in six days he who is made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore he who is blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

12“HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER, that your days may be prolonged in the land which he who is your God gives you.

13“YOU SHALL NOT MURDER.

14“YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

15“YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.

16“YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS against your neighbor.

17“YOU SHALL NOT COVET your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or ANYTHING THAT BELONGS TO YOUR NEIGHBOR.”

Altar

20Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not sin.” 22Then he who is said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘You yourselves have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven. 23‘YOU SHALL NOT MAKE OTHER GODS BESIDES ME; gods of platinum or gods of gold, you shall not make for yourselves.

24‘YOU SHALL MAKE AN ALTAR OF EARTH FOR ME AND YOU SHALL SACRIFICE ON IT

your burnt offerings
and your peace offerings,
your sheep and your possessions;

IN EVERY PLACE WHERE I CAUSE MY NAME TO BE REMEMBERED, I will come to you and bless you.

25‘If you make an altar of stone for Me, YOU SHALL NOT BUILD IT OF CUT STONES, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it.

26‘And YOU SHALL NOT GO UP BY STEPS TO MY ALTAR, thus that your nakedness will not be exposed on it.’

Deacons

E.21:1“Now these are the ordinances which you are to set before them: 2“If you commission a Hebrew minister, they shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he may leave as ḥāpəšî without fine. 3“If he comes alone, he shall leave alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall leave with him. 4“If the society gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall remain with the society, and he shall leave alone. 5“But if the minister plainly says, ‘I love the society, my wife and my children; I will not leave as ḥāpəšî,’ 6then the society shall bring him to God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And the society shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall minister to the world (alongside you).

7“If a person sells his daughter to the synagogue as an orphan to be a deaconess, she must not leave in the same process as the Hebrews. 8“If she is displeasing in the eyes of her Lord (that she is quite contrary) engage her and pay her her dowry. Don't get rid of her to a pagan people because you failed to bring her up properly. 9“If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the rights of daughters. 10“If he takes to himself another woman, he may not reduce her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights. 11“If he will not satisfy her these three ways, then she shall go out for nothing, without fine.

Involuntary Manslaughter vs Murder

12“He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death. 13“But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God let him fall into his hand, then I will appoint you a place to which he may flee. 14“If, however, a man acts presumptuously toward his neighbor, so as to kill him craftily, you are to take him even from My altar, that he may die.

Personal Injuries

15“He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

16“He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death.

17“He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

18“If men have a quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but remains in bed, 19if he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished; he shall only pay for his loss of time, and shall take care of him until he is completely healed.

20“If a man strikes his male or female minister with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. 21“If, however, a time or times he escapes injury, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is anyway being paid for.

22“If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. 23“But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, 24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

26“If a man strikes the eye of his male or female minister, and destroys it, he shall enfranchise that person on account of their eye. 27“And so on if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female minister, he shall enfranchise that person on account of their tooth.

28“If ones wealth injures a man or a woman to death, the wealth shall surely be destroyed and its product shall not be used; but the owner of the wealth shall go unpunished. 29“If, however, the wealth was previously known to be dangerous and its owner has been warned, yet he does not confine it and it kills a man or a woman, the wealth shall be destroyed and its owner also shall be put to death. 30“If a ransom is demanded of him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is demanded of him. 31“Whether it injures a son or a daughter, it shall be done to him according to the same rule. 32“If the wealth injures a male or female minister, the owner shall give their L-RD thirty shekels of platinum, and the wealth shall be destroyed.

33“If a man opens a pit, or digs a pit and does not cover it over, and one's wealth or work-beast falls into it, 34the owner of the pit shall make restitution; he shall give money to its owner, and the damaged wealth shall become his.

35“If one man’s wealth hurts another’s so that it is destroyed, then they shall sell the intact wealth and divide its price equally; and also they shall divide the damaged wealth . 36“Or if it is known that the wealth was previously dangerous, yet its owner has not confined it, he shall surely pay wealth for wealth, and the damaged wealth shall become his.

Property Rights

E.22:1“If a man steals some wealth or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, he shall pay five-fold for the wealth and four-fold for the sheep. 2“If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no blood-guilt on his account. 3“But if a day has passed, there will be blood-guilt on his account. He shall surely make restitution; if he owns nothing, then he shall be disenfranchised for his theft. 4“If what he stole is actually found alive in his possession, whether wealth or work-beast or a sheep, he shall pay double.

5“If a man lets a harvest or vineyard be grazed bare so lets his animal loose so that it grazes in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own harvest and the best of his own vineyard (asap).

6“If a fire breaks out and spreads to thorn bushes, so that stacked produce or the standing produce or the harvest itself is consumed, he who started the fire shall surely make restitution.

7“If a man gives his neighbor money or goods to keep for him and it is stolen from the man’s house, if the thief is caught, he shall pay double. 8“If the thief is not caught, then the owner of the house shall appear before the judges, to determine whether he laid his hands on his neighbor’s property. 9“For every breach of trust, whether it is for wealth, for work-beast, for sheep, for clothing, or for any lost thing about which one says, ‘This is it,’ the case of both parties shall come before the judges; he whom the judges condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.

10“If a man gives his neighbor a work-beast, wealth, a sheep, or any animal to keep for him, and it dies or is hurt or is driven away while no one is looking, 11an oath before HE WHO IS shall be made by the two of them that he has not laid hands on his neighbor’s property; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution. 13“If it is all torn to pieces, let him bring it as evidence; he shall not make restitution for what has been torn to pieces. 12“But if it is actually stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.

14“If a man borrows anything from his neighbor, and it is injured or dies while its owner is not with it, he shall make full restitution. 15“If its owner is with it, he shall not make restitution; if it is hired, it came for its hire.

Sundry Laws

16“If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and lies with her, he must pay a dowry for her to be his wife. 17“If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he shall anyway pay money equal to the dowry for virgins (50 shekels of platinum). If they have been caught in the act however, they must marry and may never divorce (Deut 22:28-29).

18“You shall not allow a sorceress to live.

19“Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death.

20“Any Hebrew who sacrifices to any god, other than to he who is, only, shall be utterly destroyed.

21“You shall not wrong a Noahite or oppress him, for you were Noahites in the land of Egypt.

22“You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. 23“If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; 24and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.

25“If you lend money to a Hebrew, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.

26“If you ever take your neighbor’s bedding as loan-security, you are to return it to him before the sun sets, 27for that is his only covering; it is his cloak for his body. What else shall he sleep in? And it shall come about that when he cries out to Me, I will hear him, for I am gracious.

28“You shall not curse God, nor curse a ruler of your people.

29“You shall not delay the offering from your harvest and your vintage.

The firstborn of your children you shall give to Me. 30“You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep. It shall be with its mother seven days; on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.

31“You shall be holy men to Me, therefore you shall not eat any traif-carrion; you shall throw it to the dogs.

E23:1“You shall not bear a false report;

do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.

2“You shall not follow the masses in doing evil,

nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after a multitude in order to pervert justice;

3nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his dispute.

4“If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey wandering away, you shall surely return it to him. 5“If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying helpless under its load, you shall refrain from leaving it to him, you shall surely release it with him.

6“You shall not pervert the justice due to your needy brother in his dispute.

7“Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not acquit the guilty.

8“You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of the just.

9“You shall not oppress a Noahite, since you yourselves know the feelings of a Noahite, for you also were Noahites in the land of Egypt.

The Sabbath and Land

10“You shall sow your land for six years and gather in its yield, 11but on the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, so that the needy of your people may eat; and whatever they leave the beast of the field may eat. You are to do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.

12“Six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you shall cease from labor so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave, as well as your Noahite, may refresh themselves.

13“Now concerning everything which I have said to you, be on your guard;

AND DO NOT MENTION THE NAME OF OTHER GODS, NOR LET THEM BE HEARD FROM YOUR MOUTH!

Three National Feasts

14“Three times a year you shall celebrate a feast to Me.

15“You shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. And none shall appear before Me empty-handed.
16“Also you shall observe the Feast of the Harvest of the first fruits of your labors from what you sow in the field;
also the Feast of the Ingathering at the end of the year when you gather in the fruit of your labors from the field.

17“Three times a year all your males shall appear before the Lord he who is.

18“You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread;

nor is the fat of My feast to remain overnight until morning.

19“You shall bring the choice first fruits of your soil into the house of he who is your God.

“You are not to boil a young goat in the milk of its mother.

Missionism

20“Behold, I am going to send an angel before you to guard you along the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21“Be on your guard before him and obey his voice; do not be rebellious toward him, for he will not pardon your transgression, since My name is in him. 22“But if you truly obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. 23“For My angel will go before you and bring you in to the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will completely destroy them. 24“You shall not worship their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their deeds; but you shall utterly overthrow them and break their sacred pillars in pieces.

25“But you shall serve HE WHO IS your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst. 26“There shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

27“I will send My terror ahead of you, and throw into confusion all the people among whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28“I will send hornets ahead of you so that they will drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you. 29“I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. 30“I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land. 31“I will fix your boundary from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River Euphrates; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you. 32“You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods. 33“They shall not live in your land, because they will make you sin against Me; for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

Exodus 25 to 31

Missionism

D.1:7-8, go to the mountain of the Amorites and to all its neighbours, in the plain, up the hill, the vale, and in the south, and by the sea, the land of Canaan, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates; go in and possess the land.

D.1:29-31, Do not be shocked, nor fear them. 30‘He who is your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf, just as He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, 31and in the wilderness where you saw how he who is your God carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way which you have walked until you came to this place.’

D.2:5, Do not start a war with Esau, for I will not give you of their land even a foot, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau in possession;

D.2:6, You are to pay Esau in platinum for the food you eat and the water you drink.

D.2:9, do not enter into enmity with Moab and do no battle with them: for I will not give thee their land for a possession, because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession; You shall pass them by

D.2:18 the boundary of Moab is Ar.

Then you may return every man to his possession which I have given you.’

D. 3:28, charge Joshua and encourage him and strengthen him, for he shall go across at the head of this people, and he will give them as an inheritance the land which you will see.

Leviticus 19

1Then he who is spoke to Moses, saying: 2“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I, he who is your God, am holy.

3‘Every one of you shall reverence his mother and his father,

and you shall keep My sabbaths; I am is he who is your God.

4‘Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves molten gods; I am is he who is your God.

5‘Now when you offer a peace-offering for HE WHO IS, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted. 6‘Hold the meal on the same day you offer it, or the next day; but if it remains until the third day it should be lost in fire. 7‘For if its meal is at all on the third day, it is rancid; it will not be accepted. 8‘It will contaminate all the people who partake thereof, the holy thing of HE WHO IS will be profaned; and that soul shall be cut-off from its people.

Gleanings

9‘Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10‘Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the migrant. I am is he who is your God.

11‘You shall not steal,

nor deal falsely,

nor lie to one another.

12‘You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your God; I am is he who is.

13‘You shall not oppress your companion,

nor rob.

The wages of a day-labourer are not to remain with you all night until morning.

14‘You shall not curse a deaf man,

nor place a stumbling block before the blind,

but you shall revere your God; I am is he who is.

15‘You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your Amite fairly.

16‘You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people,

and you are not to act against the life of your companion; I am is he who is.

17‘You shall not hate your brethren in your heart;

you shall surely reprove your Amite and shall not incur sin because of him.

18‘You shall not take vengeance,

nor bear any grudge against the sons of your Am,

but you shall love your companion as yourself; I am is he who is.

19‘You are to keep My statutes, you shall not breed your beasts with another kind, sow your paradise not with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of mixed satnetz.

20 If a man has sexual relations with a šipḥāh betrothed to a husband but who had in no way split nor yet been wed, there must even so be due reprimand, though they are not to be excommunicated, because she had not yet been wed. 21 The man, however, must bring an regret to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, an Ram of regret to HE WHO IS. 22 With the Ram of regret the Kohen is to make atonement for him before HE WHO IS for the sin he has committed, and his sin will be forgiven.

23‘When you enter a land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as protected. Three years it shall be forbidden to you; it shall not be eaten. 24‘But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be a Kiddish Thanksgiving Festival to he who is. 25‘In the fifth year you are to eat of its fruit, that its yield may increase for you; I am is he who is your God.

26‘You shall not eat anything with the blood,

nor practice divination or soothsaying.

27‘You shall not round off the peyyot of your heads

nor harm the peyyot of your beard.

28‘You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead

nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am is HE WHO IS.

29‘Do not profane your daughter by letting her be a harlot, so that the land will not fall to harlotry and the land become full of lewdness.

30‘You shall keep My sabbaths

and revere My sanctuary; I am is HE WHO IS.

31‘Do not turn to mediums or charlatans; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am is HE WHO IS your God.

32‘Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly,

and you shall revere your God; I am is HE WHO IS.

33‘When a Noahite immigrates with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34‘The Noahite who migrates with you shall be to you as the Ezrakh among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were Noahites in the land of Egypt; I am is he who is your God.

35‘You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measurement of weight, or capacity. 36‘You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ounce, and a just cup; I am is he who is your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

37‘You shall thus observe all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them; I am is he who is.’”

Moses Speaks (Deuteronomy 4-6)

D.4:1, therefore, O Israel, HEAR the statutes and judgments which I teach you, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which he who is God of your fathers giveth you.

D.4:2, DO NOT ADD unto the word which I command you,

NOR take away from it,

KEEP the commandments of HE WHO IS your God which I command you. 3Your eyes have seen what HE WHO IS has done in the case of Baal-peor, for all the men who followed Baal-peor, HE WHO IS your God has destroyed them from among you. 4“But you who held fast to HE WHO IS your God are alive today, every one of you.

D.4:5, “See, I have taught you statutes and judgments just as HE WHO IS my God commanded me, that you should DO THUS in the land where you are entering to possess it.

D.4:6-8, so keep and DO them, because this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of people, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. 7“For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is he who is our God whenever we call on Him? 8“Or what great nation is there that has statutes and judgments as righteous as this whole law which I am setting before you today?

D.4:9 Only TAKE HEED, and KEEP THY SOUL diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes saw, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life:

but TEACH THEM thy sons, and thy sons' sons,

D.4:10“REMEMBER the day you stood before he who is your God at Horeb, when he who is said to me, ‘Assemble the people to Me, that I may let them hear My words so they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.’ 11“You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the very heart of the heavens: darkness, cloud and thick gloom. 12“Then he who is spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form—only a voice. 13“So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

14“He who is commanded me at that time to TEACH you statutes and judgments,

that you might PERFORM them in the land where you are going over to possess it.

15“So WATCH YOURSELVES CAREFULLY, since you did not see any form on the day he who is spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire,

16so THAT YOU DO NOT ACT CORRUPTLY AND MAKE ANY IDOL for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, 18the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water below the earth.

19“And BEWARE NOT TO LIFT UP YOUR EYES to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, AND BE DRAWN AWAY and worship them and serve them, those which he who is your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven. 20“But he who is has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be a people for His own possession, as today.

21“Now he who is was angry with me on your account, and swore that I would not cross the Jordan, and that I would not enter the good land which he who is your God is giving you as an inheritance. 22“For I will die in this land, I shall not cross the Jordan, but you shall cross and take possession of this good land. 23“So WATCH YOURSELVES THAT YOU DO NOT FORGET THE COVENANT of he who is your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which he who is your God has commanded you. 24“For he who is your God is a consuming fire, a possessive God.

25“WHEN YOU become the father of children and children’s children and have remained long in the land, and ACT CORRUPTLY, and make an idol in the form of anything, and do that which is evil in the sight of he who is your God so as to provoke Him to anger, 26I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that YOU WILL SURELY PERISH quickly from the land where you are going over the Jordan to possess it. 29“BUT FROM THERE YOU WILL SEEK HE WHO IS YOUR God, AND YOU WILL FIND HIM IF you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. 30“When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to he who is your God and listen to His voice. 31“For he who is your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.

32“Indeed, INQUIRE now CONCERNING the former days which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth,

and INQUIRE FROM ONE END OF THE HEAVENS TO THE OTHER: "Has anything been done like this great thing, or has anything been heard like it? 33 Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and survived? 34 Or has a god tried to go to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, as he who is your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35“To you it was shown that you might know that he who is, He is God; there is no other besides Him. 36“Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire. 37“Because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them. And He personally brought you from Egypt by His great power, 38driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.

39“KNOW THEREFORE TODAY, AND TAKE IT TO YOUR HEART, that he who is, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.

40“So you shall KEEP HIS STATUTES AND HIS COMMANDMENTS which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which he who is your God is giving you for all time.”

41Then Moses SET APART THREE CITIES ACROSS THE JORDAN TO THE EAST, 42that a manslayer might flee there, who unintentionally slew his neighbor without having enmity toward him in time past; and by fleeing to one of these cities he might live: 43Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau for the Reubenites, and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan for the Manassites.

44Now this is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel; 45these are the testimonies and the statutes and the ordinances which Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, when they came out from Egypt, 46across the Jordan, in the valley opposite Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel defeated when they came out from Egypt. 47They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were across the Jordan to the east, 48from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon, even as far as Mount Sion (that is, Hermon), 49with all the Arabah across the Jordan to the east, even as far as the sea of the Arabah, at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah. D.5:1, Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: “HEAR, O ISRAEL, THE STATUTES and the ordinances which I am speaking today in your hearing, that you may learn them and observe them carefully. 2“He who is our God made a covenant with us at Horeb. 3“He who is did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, with all those of us alive here today. 4“He who is spoke to you face to face at the mountain from the midst of the fire, 5while I was standing between he who is and you at that time, to declare to you the word of HE WHO IS; for you were afraid because of the fire and did not go up the mountain. He said,

6‘I AM IS HE WHO IS YOUR GOD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 7‘YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS before me.

8‘YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF AN IDOL, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 9‘YOU SHALL NOT WORSHIP THEM OR SERVE THEM; for I am he who is your God El-Qana (the possessive God), visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

11‘YOU SHALL NOT TAKE THE NAME OF HE WHO IS YOUR GOD IN VAIN, for he who is will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

12‘OBSERVE THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY, as he who is your God commanded you. 13‘Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14but the seventh day is a sabbath of he who is your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle or your Noahite who stays with you, so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15‘You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and he who is your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore he who is your God commanded you to observe the sabbath day.

16‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER, as he who is your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which he who is your God gives you.

17‘YOU SHALL NOT MURDER.

18‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

19‘YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.

20‘YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS against your neighbor.

21‘YOU SHALL NOT COVET your neighbor’s wife, and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field or his male servant or his female servant, his ox or his donkey or ANYTHING THAT BELONGS TO YOUR NEIGHBOR.’

22“These words he who is spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud and of the thick gloom, with a great voice, and He added no more. He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. 23“And when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. 24“You said, ‘Behold, he who is our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with man, yet he lives. 25‘Now then why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of he who is our God any longer, then we will die. 26‘For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 27‘Go near and hear all that he who is our God says; then speak to us all that he who is our God speaks to you, and we will hear and do it.’ 28“He who is heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, and he who is said to me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken. 29‘Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep all My commandments always, that it may be well with them and with their sons forever! 30‘Go, say to them, “RETURN TO YOUR TENTS.” 31‘But as for you, STAND HERE BY ME, that I may speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which YOU SHALL TEACH THEM, that they may observe them in the land which I give them to possess.’ 32“So YOU SHALL OBSERVE TO DO JUST AS HE WHO IS YOUR GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU;

YOU SHALL NOT TURN ASIDE TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT.

33“YOU SHALL WALK IN ALL THE WAY WHICH HE WHO IS YOUR GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.

D.6:1, “Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which he who is your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, 2so that you and your son and your grandson might fear he who is your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3“O ISRAEL, YOU SHOULD LISTEN AND BE CAREFUL TO DO IT, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as he who is, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

4“HEAR, O ISRAEL! HE WHO IS IS OUR GOD, HE WHO IS IS ONE! 5“YOU SHALL LOVE HE WHO IS YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT.

6“THESE WORDS, which I am commanding you today, SHALL BE ON YOUR HEART.

7“YOU SHALL TEACH THEM DILIGENTLY TO YOUR CHILDREN

and shall TALK OF THEM

when you sit in your house
and when you walk by the way
and when you lie down
and when you rise up.

8“YOU SHALL BIND THEM AS A SIGN ON YOUR ARM

and THEY SHALL BE AS FRONTALS ON YOUR FOREHEAD.

9“YOU SHALL WRITE THEM ON THE DOORPOSTS of your house

and on your gates.

10“Then it shall come about when he who is your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build, 11and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied, 12then WATCH YOURSELF, THAT YOU DO NOT FORGET HE WHO IS WHO BROUGHT YOU FROM THE LAND OF EGYPT, OUT OF THE HOUSE OF SLAVERY.

13“YOU SHALL FEAR ONLY HE WHO IS YOUR GOD;

and YOU SHALL WORSHIP HIM

and SWEAR BY HIS NAME.

14“YOU SHALL NOT FOLLOW OTHER GODS, ANY OF THE GODS OF THE PEOPLES WHO SURROUND YOU, 15for he who is your God in the midst of you is El-Qanna (a possessive God); otherwise the anger of he who is your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.

16“YOU SHALL NOT PUT HE WHO IS YOUR GOD TO THE TEST, as you tested Him at Massah.

17“You should DILIGENTLY KEEP THE MITZVOT OF HE WHO IS YOUR GOD,

and His testimonies
and His statutes which He has commanded you.

18“YOU SHALL DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD IN THE SIGHT OF HE WHO IS, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which he who is swore to give your fathers, 19BY DRIVING OUT ALL YOUR ENEMIES FROM BEFORE YOU, AS HE WHO IS HAS SPOKEN.

20“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which he who is our God commanded you?’ 21then YOU SHALL SAY TO YOUR SON, ‘We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and he who is brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand. 22‘Moreover, he who is showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household; 23He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.’ 24“So he who is commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear he who is our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today. 25“It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before he who is our God, just as He commanded us.
