The implication of an oath being "cutting", cutting a brit, or the opposite cutting to a premature death. But coret/cutting means much more, the Gemarah of Rosh Hashanna compares the Day of Creation with the 1st and 7th months. Obviously they, the two primary teachers of R. Akiva debate not an issue of a past event but a present daily occurrence. Both Pashach and Yom HaKippor? have a din of coret if a person transgresses the din of coret (Cutting) (cutting a brit) is two sided. On Passover the Ancient of Days chose Israel and Killed the first born of Egypt - cutting.

So too the Day of Atonement a choice of eternal inheritances occurs. This choice of eternal inheritances in the world the sages understood as the continual act of Creation, that's why the Torah begins with the creation story. The Gemarah in question is 24 Nedarim, check it out, there the Gemarah speaks of making an oath before a court with a safer torah as opposed to the informal setting of emotionally making an oath based upon an exaggeration.

A vain or lying oath can not be annulled. But the Torah gives power to the court to inflict lashes upon a person thereby saving the person from "coret" Coret/cutting. Meaning that a act of transgression occurs that annuls the brit relationship. If Bnai Noach make the Oath/Brit they cut a Brit with Heaven, and Heaven chooses them as the "chosen" inheritance in this world measure for measure. A Bnai Brit person has a Brit relationship. This relationship a person is not born into, each person must cut the Brit.

Its two ways heaven cuts a brit with man and man cuts a brit with heaven.

The emotional attribute/middah of T'shuva the gemarah defines, as i understand it, as listening and incorporating what someone else has said and internalizing the words having them emanate from your own soul. Change does not occur from the outside but rather from the inside. An alcoholic does not get off the bottle b/c people tell him he's a drunk. But rather the alcoholic says to him/her self Hey I'm an alcoholic. The specific of alcoholism defines the general of T'shuva. Emotional development man really require reaching unto Elohim for assistance.

If a bnai Israel transgresses a din of coret, for example eating leavened products on Passover or eating food or drink on yom haKippor the coret of heaven cuts the inheritance of the transgressor from the brit inheritance if the transgressor does not do T'shuva.
