Og of Bashan was a patrilineal descendant of Arphacsad but a matrilineal descendant of the Rephaim i.e. the ancients/ancestors. He was meant to serve the Amorites as a guide but instead descended with them into depravity. First evicted by the Amonites he then became a target to the Israelites before settling in Gaza. The Egyptians made a clear reference to the Rephaite kings among the Amorites in comments concerning the Hyksos as "Aamu and the Shemau amongst them".
