Saturn was the Roman equivalent to the evil Titan in Greek mythology known as Cronus who was basically guilty of eating his children and overthrowing his own father. It is also by his name that the original solemn advent of Kalenda was corrupted into Saturnalia.

It is possible that after the Egyptian demonisation of Seth by Ashur, his name was adopted by Romans to refer to Cain (Cronus) and this is how the name Saturn originated. The identification of Cronus with Satan is an easy one which does not stretch the imagination too far.
